Comelec officers reshuffling set

ELECTION registrars and their assistants from different towns and cities in Pangasinan will be shifted from their posts as part of preparations for ensuring a clean election in May 2013.

Lawyer Marino Salas, provincial election supervisor of Pangasinan, said the list of 19 names to be reshuffled by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) central office has been sent last week.

The mandatory re-assignment to other places will include those who have already served one area for four years.

Other local election officials who are related to any candidate up to fourth degree of consanguinity or by affinity in his or her area would be moved.

“This is to ensure impartiality,” Salas said.

Last month, lawyer Remarque Ravanzo, election officer of Dagupan City, was already replaced by lawyer Ericson Oganiza, election registrar of Lingayen who, in turn, was given Ravanzo’s post.

Salas added that he hopes the reshuffle order from Comelec Manila would be handed down after the current elections registrars have finished conducting training for their Board of Election Inspectors, which would mean the new election registrar to be assigned can focus on preparations for the 2013 elections.—Eva Visperas
