DAGUPAN Mayor Benjamin S. Lim is keen on the idea of annexing the municipality of San Fabian to the city saying it will prompt economic development in both areas.

“There is a need to enlarge the city. We are looking at San Fabian to be part of Metropolitan Dagupan… It is much easier to create a new city than to rebuild one,” said Lim during the Climate Change forum held December 6 in Dagupan.

Lim said the combination of the city and the municipality is in time for the current infrastructural thrusts rolled out by the national government, such as the Tarlac-Pangasinan-La Union Expressway (TPLEX), which will cut the travel time from the tourist gateway Clark International Airport to the Dagupan-San Fabian metropolis.

Lim also wants to pursue the long-shelved tri-city ferry system that will connect Dagupan, Alaminos City, and San Fernando City in La Union.

The forum was organized by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and Bank of the Philippine Islands Foundation, Inc. (BPIFI) to present the group’s study on the Business Risk Assessment and the Management of Climate Change Impacts for Dagupan. (CIO)
