“PANANGARO”, an exhibit paying homage to the life and artistry of the first Dagupeño National Artist, Victorio Edades, opened last December 20 at the Museo de Dagupan and will be open for public viewing until March next year.

Relatives of the late national artist and Mayor Benjamin Lim unveiled the three acrylic-on-canvas masterpieces celebrating Edades and his work created by contemporary painter and Edades’s protégé Manuel Baldemor.

The three paintings consist of the 4×8-inch “Homage to Edades”, a depiction of Edades and his works leaning against a Dagupan setting; the 4×8-inch “Bakawan: Pakar sa Ilog ng Bayaoas” (Mangrove in the Bayaoas River); and the 4×4-inch“Remnant of Railroad Ruins”.

Also on display are photos reliving Edades’s work and the newly-minted medallion of the national artist.

In his message during the ceremony, Lim said the exhibit will help the city’s youth gain awareness and interest on their rich heritage.

“Panangaro”, which means love in Pangasinan, is staged in commemoration of Edades’s 117th birth anniversary and in line with the City Fiesta 2012 celebration.

Siapno said a gallery for the late Salvador Bernal, the city’s second national artist, will be mounted next year. (CIO)
