LINGAYEN—Archbishop Socrates Villegas of the Lingayen-Dagupan archdiocese likened the present situation of Governor Amado T. Espino, Jr. to that of the sacrifice of St. Joseph who, amidst confusion, did not lose his faith in God.

On the second day of the traditional Simbang Gabi held December 17 at the Capitol Plaza here, the archbishop said in his homily that leaders must be aware that true happiness can be found in God.

“At the end of life we will not be judged by the DILG or Malacanang or the COMELEC,” he pointed out, even as he further stressed, “that it is not the votes, the publicity and the survey that matters but the genuine service that we give to the people and our faith in God that matters.”

Archbishop Villegas reminded his flock “that the present crisis that is happening will serve as a challenge to all leaders not to lose their faith and stay “united with God” for it is only Him who will judge everyone in the end.”

Last month, the archdiocese and the provincial government inked Tabinan, a covenant of commitment for the establishment of a partnership between the church and the local government units in promoting peace, pursue progress and protect the people’s welfare at all times.

Tabinan, a social action program designed to launch a church-LGU partnership, was part of the Jubilee of the Government celebration.

During the mass, the archbishop offered a special prayer for Espino that he may “become the best governor of Pangasinan”. (PIO/Ruby R. Bernardino)
