Twenty-three Pangasinan riders qualify for 2013 Ronda

OUT of 30 Pangasinan cyclists that participated in the two-day qualifying race for the 2013 Ronda Pilipinas bikathon, 23 passed the test held October 27-28 in Tarlac City.

The successful qualifiers are led by 24 year-old Mark Julius Bonzo of Sual who placed 9th overall.

The 22 others are: brothers Santy and Larry Barnachea and Ferdinand Pablo of Umingan, Renato Sembrano and Joshua Carino of Mangaldan, Reynaldo Navarro and Pepito Calosa, Jr. of San Jacinto, Benson Camat and Joel Crisostomo of Laoac, Ronald Oranza and Ryan Daoana of Villasis, Ericson Obosa of Manaoag, Bale Ravina of Asingan, Jesus Garcia of Sta. Maria, Emelito Atilano of Basista, Alfie Catalan, Edgardo Bolleser, Harvey Sicam, Salvador Salvador, Juancho Callorina, Edmundo Nicolas, Jr. and Kenneth Solis all from San Manuel.

Ronda organizers told The PUNCH that six of the 23 Pangasinenses that passed the elimination race will compose the six-man Pangasinan squad while the others will be fielded to different commercial teams.

The 23 passers will test their mettle anew against 70 accredited riders in the coming Ronda slated January 12 to February 1 with P7.5 million in cash prizes at stake with the individual and team champions to receive P1 million each.

The cycling marathon will start in Zamboanga City, move north to the Visayas, then wind up in Manila via the farthest northern part of the archipelago.–JAGJr.
