THE chairman of the provincial council’s Committee on Health has expressed support for the passage of the Sin Tax Bill saying it will help curb the incidence of lung cancer and other pulmonary problems among Filipinos.

Fourth District Board Member Jeremy Agerico Rosario said the passage of the bill is long overdue.

“We all know that smoking is dangerous to one’s health. Our minds are just being conditioned but at the end of the day, we know the harm that smoking brings,” said Rosario, who is also a licensed medical doctor.

“I am really in favor of the sin tax bill to intensify the campaign against tobacco use and lessen the users. I hope it would be passed real soon,” he said.

Rosario told the Philippine Information Agency that he does not believe tobacco farmers would lose income if the sin tax bill is passed.

“A smoker, regardless of the price of cigarette, will continue to smoke. At least on the part of the government, we are doing something about it,” he said. (PIA-Pangasinan/VHS)
