Remote areas get health centers
INFANTA—Two new health centers were inaugurated last week in the remote barangays of Babuyan and Pita in this town primarily to provide immediate healthcare assistance to children and pregnant women.
The two barangays are about 40 kilometers away from the town proper and takes about two hours to reach through rough roads.
Governor Amado Espino Jr. led the inauguration of the barangay health centers (BHC) last November 7, underscoring his administration’s priority for health programs.
The BHCs, two of 11 newly built ones around the province, have facilities for normal childbirth delivery or can serve as a half-way house for pregnant women nearing delivery.
In case of caesarian operations, Espino assured that there are ambulances available to pick-up the expectant mothers to be brought to district hospitals
The provincial health office (PHO) headed by Dr. Anna de Guzman also provided medicines to the new health centers
PHILHEALTH, TOURISM KIOSKS
Meanwhile, the governor also distributed PhilHealth cards and turned over tourism and information kiosks to Dasol last November 7.
Under the sponsored Health Insurance Program of the province, hundreds of residents from the 18 barangays of the town received PHilHealth cards, which grants them up to Php600,000.00 worth of health benefits.
A PhilHealth representative at the event said additional benefits such as discounts on kidney transplant operation, breast cancer and prostate cancer treatments, as well as treatment to animal bites are now included in the PhilHealth benefits.
The Provincial Tourism Office (PTO) headed by Malu Elduayan presented the “I Love Pangasinan” ad campaign, launched last September, which will be part of the tourism kiosks given to the town.
The kiosk, intended for the promotion of the town as tourism destination, is equipped with a television, DVD player, computer and a printer.
Dasol Mayor Noel Nacar said the kiosk will be placed at the municipal hall lobby.
During the turnover event, the Balitok A Tawir Year 2, the province’s main cultural event was also promoted with Dasol Teachers Chorale performing a number of Pangasinan songs.–Johanne R. Macob
