CALASIAO—The official website of this town’s Puto Festival, set on December 16-31, is now online to provide information on the activities for the coming celebration and attract more visitors to join.

The site, www.putofestival.com, was launched by the local government headed by Mayor Mark Roy Macanlalay last October 29.

Macanlalay said he is confident the festival will boost the puto industry, which has suffered recently due to accessibility problems due to the closure of the Villamil Bridge here for its rehabilitation that started early this year.

The town’s puto stands are located in the north end of the foot of the Villamil Bridge.

Among the highlights of the festival this year are the unveiling of the biggest Puto and Pandayan Marker, the Puto Mosaic, street party and street dancing competition.

The Puto Festival was first celebrated in December 2002 to promote the puto as the “White Gold” of Calasiao, a native delicacy made from ground rice and sugar.

The two-day celebration was not sustained in the succeeding years due to lack of funds, but was revived in 2008 and has since been an annual festivity.

Macanlalay said the local government decided to conduct the festival in December since demand for the native product increases during the yuletide season.
