More teams join 4th Jimmy Fernandez Cup

FIVE more teams have been invited to participate in the 4th Jimmy Fernandez Cup Collegiate Invitational Basketball Championship that will reel off in December at the Stadia in Dagupan City.

New invitees to this year’s tournament include teams from Lyceum-Northwestern University (LNU), AMA Computer College, STI College, International College of Excellence (ICE-Urdaneta City), and Tarlac State University (TSU-Tarlac City).

Schools already invited were Pangasinan Merchant Marine Academy (PAMMA), the defending champion; AIE College; Colegio de Dagupan (CdD); PIMSAT Colleges; Pangasinan State University (PSU-Lingayen); Don Mariano Marcos State University (DMMSU-Agoo, La Union); University of Luzon (UL); University of Pangasinan-PHINMA (U-Pang-PHINMA); Perpetual Help University System (PHUS-Malasiqui); and, Philippine College of Science and Technology (PCST-Calasiao).

The tournament, named in honor of the late father of Dagupan Vice-Mayor Belen T. Fernandez, is supported by the CSI Group of Companies, Stadia, USATV, Kabaleyan Channel 17, BAP (Basketball Association of the Philippines) Region I, Inc.

WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL

Meanwhile, the opening of the 2012 Inter-Collegiate Invitational Volleyball Tournament for Women, under the auspices Of the Federation of Schools Sports Association of the Philippines and the Women’s National Collegiate Athletic Association (WNCAA), will coincide with the 4th Jimmy Fernandez Cup with eight teams as probable participants.

The invited volleyball teams are from San Carlos College (SCC-San Carlos City), UL, LNU, CdD, PIMSAT, PAMMA, PSU, and UPang-PHINMA.

The tournament will be conducted and played in a double round robin elimination round with the top four teams advancing to the semi-final round in which the top two teams will earn the twice-to-beat incentive.–Philamer C. Celi
