Miss Earth beauties set pace for environmental awareness
LINGAYEN — The second day of the pre-pageant activities of this year’s Miss Earth International pageant was devoted to the preservation of the environment and protection of Mother Earth by supporting the environmental programs of Governor Amado T. Espino, Jr.
The 27 lovely ladies started their environmental awareness advocacy with a mangrove planting activity at the Bolinao Provincial Mangrove Information Center and Nursery at Barangay Arnedo.
Espino, who led the planting activity, was elated with the patience and perseverance of the candidates who untiringly withstood the scorching heat of the sun while they planted the mangrove seedlings in the mud.
The pageant’s entourage, together with members of various offices and bureaus of the provincial government, then had a hearty lunch at the posh El Pescador Resort in Bolinao.
I LOVE PANGASINAN!
The entourage then proceeded to Banaga, Bugallon where the contestants rode on bancas and released 1,000 bangus fingerlings in the Agno River under the Banaga Bridge.
The Agno River has previously undergone a massive clean up drive to allow it to sustain and propagate marine life.
Environmental awareness advocacy is one of the primary thrusts of Espino who received numerous praises and citations for being a ‘keeper’ of Mother Nature.
Under the stewardship of Espino, Pangasinan has been a recipient of the Likas Yaman Award for two consecutive years, 2011 and 2012.
Likewise, the province has also been elevated to the Hall of Fame for capturing the Best Coastal Resources Management Award for three consecutive years from 2008 to 2010.
Capping the environmental crusade of the pre-pageant activity was a clean-up drive at the Lingayen Beach on their third and last day in the province. (PIO/Jason Velasco)
