CLIMATE CHANGE CONSCIOUSNESS WEEK

AS the country observes National Climate Change Consciousness Week this November 19 to 25, provincial government called on all officials of towns and cities to help promote disaster-preparedness and to strengthen coordination efforts.

The Espino administration recalled the severe effects of climate change with the series of flooding experienced in many parts of the province, particularly in the low-lying areas like the city of Dagupan, caused by the typhoons and monsoon rains.

This year’s observance with the theme “Creating Convergence on Climate Change”, is spearheaded by the Climate Change Commission chaired by President Benigno S. Aquino in partnership with the Cabinet Cluster on Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation.

Proclamation No. 1667, created in 2008, declares National Climate Change Consciousness Week to be observed annually during this period.

The proclamation states, “the country aims to create awareness on global warming and climate change through broad and intensive information and educational campaigns and seeks to secure the cooperation of all citizens as well as the collective action of the private and public sectors at all levels in finding solutions to the threats of a changing climate.” (PIA-Pangasinan/ARF)
