Early Christmas gifts from Manay Gina
MANAY GINA REPORTS
TWO early Christmas gifts, consisting of energy efficient bulbs and her own Computer School-on-Wheels, were given by 4th District Rep. Gina de Venecia to the people of Dagupan City last Friday.
There were 5,320 compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs) came from the Department of Energy for 2,660 poor households all over the city.
Each household was given two CFL bulbs but since the supply is limited, only those badly needing these were given first.
But before these were distributed to the recipients, the households were asked to compare their present their latest electric billing with next billing to determine if the new bulbs helped reduce their consumption.
Studies indicate that CFL is consuming only from one-fifth to two third of electricity and these will last 15 times longer than the ordinary bulbs.
“Kaya kung masasanay tayo sa paggamit nito, mas makakatipid tayo, at magagamit natin ang sobrang pera para sa ibang pangangailangan ng ating pamilya,” Manay Gina said.
SCHOOL-ON-WHEELS
In the same forum, De Venecia also outlined the benefits that can be derived from her Computer School-on-Wheels program launched two weeks ago in Bonuan Gueset
“To serve the people’s health needs, I brought a hospital in every barangay through our five mobile mini-hospital vans. This time I am bringing a whole computer school to every household in the Fourth District to teach youth and even unemployed adults free computer literacy and computer repair courses,” she said.
She added that she made mobile computer school as a priority because she all businesses now use computers in their day-to-day operation, and therefore knowledge in computers would be an added advantage to all.
She told residents of Bonuan Gueset that the Computer School-on-Wheels is air-conditioned and each one has 16 computers.
The courses being taught in the Computer School-on-Wheels were approved by the Technical Education Skills and Development Authority (TESDA).
All graduates will receive TESDA certificates which they can use when applying for jobs locally and abroad.
De Venecia said 16 students will comprise one batch and four batches of students will be trained daily.
“Sa apat na linggo ang ilalagi ng ating Computer School- on- Wheels sa isang barangay, magkakaroon tayo ng mahigit sa 256 graduates”, De Venecia said.
The computer School-on-Wheels will be brought to all the 140 barangays, adding that she will not stop until the Fourth District becomes the most computer literate district in Pangasinan, Region 1 and the whole country.
She said aside from the mothers, other target groups are persons with physical disability and out-of school youth.
