Duque gets unanimous vote of confidence

IT’S still PUNCH columnist Gonzalo Duque who’s at the helm of the Pangasinan Press Club (PPC).

The officers and board of directors of the PPC on Tuesday formally expressed their confidence on the leadership of Duque who came into a clash with some members who have since organized another press club reportedly supported by a Dagupan City official.

In a meeting at Rubis Restaurant, nine officers and directors in attendance unanimously approved a resolution recognizing Duque’s two-year term as club president as legitimate beginning his election in February 2010 in compliance with the club’s tradition.

The board’s move was prompted by moves reportedly initiated by Ruben Rivera, a former club director, seeking signatures from members to oust Duque.

The oust-petition was reportedly launched by Rivera after Orly Navarro’s public affairs program was taken off the air by the management of Aksyon Radyo, led by Duque, for violating the KBP the code of ethics.

Present at the board meeting and voted unanimously were Ashok Vasandani, executive vice president; Jun Velasco, vice president for print; Raul Tamayo, vice president for broadcast; Rhee Fer Hortaleza, secretary; Ike Palinar, treasurer; Jessie Perez, auditor; and directors Macky Delgado, Celso Manuel, and Andy Estrada.

Palinar, the sponsor of the resolution, said Duque has accomplished a lot of projects in the past 18 months of his term and has since restored the press club’s image as a respectable group.

“Under Attorney Duque’s leadership, we have conducted seminars on media ethics and community journalism. We also had sports fest that unified the club’s membership and we participated in various community activities,” Palinar said.

2ND RESOLUTION

Another resolution was approved to replace two directors who have dissociated themselves from the PPC.

Rivera ended his involvement with the PPC when he organized his own club this year.

Navarro, on the hand, announced in his radio program on Tuesday that he had resigned from the club. His son is a candidate for councilor under the Lim slate.

Weekly Guardian publisher Lorna Abalos replaced Rivera while Aksyon Radyo reporter Ramil Tamayo replaced Navarro.

They will both serve the unexpired terms of Rivera and Navarro.
