Church, Capitol agree on 3 areas of cooperation
LINGAYEN–Despite separation of church and state, the Archdiocese of Lingayen-Dagupan led by Most Reverend Socrates Villegas and the province of Pangasinan under the stewardship of Governor Amado Espino Jr. have agreed on three areas of cooperation.
In his homily during the Eucharistic Mass held November 8 at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Shrine in Manaoag, the bishop stressed on the “three Ps” that the church and the state must address to usher in continuous progress for Pangasinan.
The three Ps are peace, progress and people.
Peace, according to him, is a priority thrust of both the church and state. “The church promotes peace among its laity and so does the government,” Villegas said.
Progress comes naturally from a peaceful environment whose leaders are rightfully focused in bringing genuine development to the community, he continued.
“The last ‘P’ is People,” said the Archbishop as he noted that the vision of the church and the state will not materialize if the community will not embrace the first two Ps.
“The church and state must be properly positioned maintaining distance yet keeping close coordination and mutual cooperation to bring forth peace and progress for the good of the people,” Villegas said.
The Mass, which was attended by provincial officials, local government unit heads and various provincial department heads and chiefs of hospital, was held as one of the Eucharistic Masses in anticipation of the coming Jubilee Celebration of the Archdiocese of Lingayen-Dagupan on February 6, 2013.
