3-vehicle accident kills 1, injures 19
MALASIQUI—A movie executive producer who hails from this town died while 19 others were injured in a three-vehicle accident that involved a bus, pick-up, and motorcycle early morning of November 20 in Barangay Gomez here.
Antonio Veloria, 60, who was the executive producer of Batang West Side that starred Joel Torre, died on the spot after the Five Star bus he was boarding on his way to his hometown came in collision with a pick-up.
The fatality’s brother, Dr. Ed Veloria, a former councilor, said Antonio seldom went home but liked paying them surprise visits.
He described his brother as a very humble person and always took the public bus when he went home.
Veloria’s remains lie in state at their residence here and would be interred on November 28.
ROAD MISHAP
Police investigation showed the Five Star bus driven by Remy Atanacio, 52, from Quezon City, hit a Nissan Frontier pick-up driven by Marlon Catugas, 36, of Mancup, Calasiao, after it reportedly swerved to the bus’s lane.
The bus eventually ended up hitting a concrete signpost, causing the driver to lose control of the steering wheel of the vehicle, which then turned and skidded on its side in the middle of the road.
The pick-up, meanwhile, hit the Yamaha motorcycle which was then tailing it.
The 19 injured were brought to the Malasiqui Municipal Hospital where they were treated and had since been released. Among the injured was the motorcycle driver.
The police had filed a case of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide against the bus driver.—Eva Visperas
