YMCA holds 1st Nat’l Youth Gathering in Dagupan

LECTURES, an “Amazing Race” competition, and other team-building events were among the fun and educational activities during the 1st YMCA National Youth Gathering held in Dagupan City last October 19 to 21.

With the theme “ME to WE: Empowering Youth through Global Citizenship Education”, the event is in pursuit of the YMCA mission and vision of empowering the youth and giving them an opportunity to discuss social issues.

“We aspire to develop young people’s leadership skills and let them foster greater social responsibilities as well as to enable them to manifest impact onto the communities,” said YMCA national general secretary Pablito Tabucol,

The keynote speaker was Bayan Muna Representative Teddy Casiño while other speakers came from various sectors, including Henry Tenedero, Rafael Baraan, Leslie Capus, Morito Tatel, Victor Obedicen, Anna Oposa, Rommel Linatoc, Priscilla Jiminez, Bam Aquino, Orpheus Velasco, Jed Africa, Tex Gabo, Ivy Miravelles, Teresita Velaso, and Irmina Francisco.

The topics discussed were Peace Building Within Local Communities, Ecological and Environmental Concers, Poverty and Sustainability of Life, Multiculturalism and Indigenous People, and Literacy, Unemployment and Underemployment. –Johanne R. Macob
