Verzosa soon to be permanent police director
LINGAYEN–Governor Amado Espino Jr. appears to have had a change of heart on Senior Superintendent Mariano Luis Verzosa, officer-in-charge (OIC) of the Pangasinan Police Office.
The governor is now likely to approve Verzosa’s position from OIC status to permanent capacity after former Governor Victor Agbayani did not file for candidacy in any position for the May 2013 election.
The governor, in a talk with newsmen after filing his certificate of candidacy last Wednesday, indicated that he is now considering making Verzosa the permanent police director in Pangasinan.
Espino earlier set as pre-condition that should Agbayani, who is Verzosa’s relative, run for governor against him, Verzosa will be given just a few months to serve as head of the provincial police.
Last Friday, Agbayani confirmed that he is not running for any elective position but will actively support the Braganza-Lomibao campaign.
Verzosa, in an earlier interview, acknowledged that Agbayani is close to him as their fathers were close political allies during their time and the elder sister of the former governor is married to the elder brother of Verzosa.
Espino acknowledged that Verzosa has performed well since he began his work as OIC two months ago.
He said Verzosa has instituted discipline in the ranks of the police and spearheaded the province-wide campaign to minimize loose firearms to ensure a peaceful election next year.
