San Carlos jail provides “e-dalaw” service
SAN CARLOS CITY—Inmates at the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) in this city get the privilege of staying in touch with family and friends through the internet with the
Electronic Dalaw Project or “e-dalaw”.
The e-dalaw, first launched by BJMP and the Office of the Solicitor General in October 2011 at the Quezon City BJMP, is provided at the San Carlos jail with technical assistance from the Computer Service Internet Center of the locally based Virgen Milagrosa University Foundation.
The BJMP has also been receiving support from the local government of San Carlos, including the construction of the two-storey Jail Multipurpose Building worth about P3.5 million with an infirmary, a working area for livelihood production, and a classroom for educational purposes.
The Department of Education (DepEd) provides education, basic skills training and, together with the City Agriculture Office, livelihood programs.
Among the income-generating output of inmates are décor crafted out of corn husk and other raw materials, bags made of old newspapers, and soya milk.
Jail warden Atty. Kenneth Bid-ing was presented the Dangal ng Bayan by President Benigno Aquino III, a prestigious award for the civil service of outstanding public officials and employees.
During the Correctional Consciousness Week on October 22-28, BJMP San Carlos has lined up various activities for the inmates, including a sportsfest, entertainment, legal assistance, medial mission and spiritual programs.
