San Carlos, Basista are latest beneficiaries
TILAPIA DISPERSAL PROJECTS
SOME 5,000 tilapia fingerlings were dispersed in the communal bodies of water in San Carlos City and Basista town by the provincial government to enhance livelihood opportunities for fisherfolks.
The fingerlings, distributed by the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPAG) as part of a program to promote tilapia as a Pangasinan product, were sourced from the freshwater hatcheries of the provincial agricultural stations.
“The fisherfolks of San Carlos City are thankful for the continuing efforts of the provincial government in dispersing fingerlings into the communal waters,” said Erlinda Padlan-Frias, president of the San Carlos Fisherfolks’ Association.
Aquacultural Technician Juvy Avellera from the OPAG said the fingerlings dispersed in San Carlos City (25,000 pieces) and Basista (25,000 pieces) were sourced from the Provincial Agricultural Station -Freshwater Fish Hatchery in Sta. Barbara.
The OPAG, under the administration of Governor Amado Espino Jr. since 2007, has dispersed almost four million tilapia fingerlings to the communal rivers and private fishpond owners in Pangasinan. (PIO/ GNO)
