Public schools get chairs made from seized logs
SEVERAL public schools in the towns of Mangatarem and Urbiztondo received 500 chairs made from illegal logs confiscated by the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) in the mountainous area of Mangatarem last month.
CENRO Officer Raymundo Gayo said 250 school desks were delivered to Mangatarem and another 250 to Urbiztondo last week.
The logs were seized near the boundary of Pangasinan and Sta. Cruz, Zambales, areas in an operation conducted by CENRO with the help of the Philippine Army.
However, no illegal logger was arrested.
Under an existing memorandum of agreement, all seized logs are to be made into school chairs to be donated by CENRO to the Department of Education.
Gayo said 2nd District Representative Leopoldo Bataoil funded the materials used to assemble the logs into school chairs.
