Palay procurement back on track
LINGAYEN—The series of typhoons and monsoon rains last month hampered the National Food Authority (NFA) Western Pangasinan from meeting its procurement target for palay last month, but buying activities are now back on track.
Dr. Beverlyn P. Peralta, NFA provincial manager, said the agency is confident to meet its targets in the coming months and gave assurance that there is enough rice supply.
Economist III Sulpicio A. Terrado Jr. said the procurement target for the remaining months of the year are: October- 75,000 palay bags; November- 85,000; and December- 50,000.
The NFA currently buys palay at Php17.40 per kilo from individual retailers and Php17.70 per kilo from group retailers, inclusive of all other fees.
This is in accordance with the NFA main office’s price rate of P17 per kilo and Php0.20 delivery fee andPhp0.20 drying fee for individual farmers, and Php0.70 centavos for farmers groups.–Johanne R. Macob
