Minor acts as drug courier
FOR VIDEO GAME TIME
A BOY, claiming to be 12 years old, arrested by the police in Dagupan in a buy-bust operation last Wednesday, admitted he agreed to act as a courier of illegal drugs to get extended hours of playing in a computer game shop.
The suspect, Ibrahim Macalangan Dumlas, a native of Marawi City and is presently residing in Barangay Osiem Mangaldan town, was arrested by police after he sold one sachet of suspected shabu to a police officer who acted as buyer.
Authorities also recovered two more sachets of shabu from his custody when police conducted body search.
Dumlas told the police that prior to his arrest, he went to play a video game in a computer shop near their house.
When he has consumed his paid playing time, a man named “Miles” offered to extend his time by paying him P20, provided that Dumlas delivers “items” in Barangay Pantal, Dagupan City.
He told Miles that he is not familiar with the places in the province because he had just arrived last October 4 to visit his parents who are doing business in Mangaldan, but nonetheless accepted the payment and headed to Pantal.
“Pinasakay pa niya ako sa jeep papuntang Dagupan, hinanap ko pa yong Pantal kasi hindi ko alam kung saan ‘yon. Tapos nung mapunta ako dun sa isang lugar hinuli na ako ng pulis”, Dumlas said.
Police officer Angelita Visperas said the Women and Children’s Protection Desk already coordinated with the City Social Welfare and Development Office in Dagupan and the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office in Mangaldan to contact Dumlas’ parents.
“We cannot verify yet if he is truly a minor because we are still waiting for his birth certificate, for now we are filing a case for violation of Republic Act 9165 against him,” Visperas said.
She added that Dumlas’ case will be filed before the prosecutor’s office pending determination of the boy’s age.
