Massive buying by NFA set

THE National Food Authority (NFA)-Western Pangasinan is now ready for a massive palay buying operation for the bumper rice harvest of farmers this harvest season.

Aside from accepting deliveries at the five NFA buying stations around Pangasinan, the agency is also deploying trucks to pick up the produce of individual farmers and farmers’ groups who are in remote areas.

NFA Provincial Manager Beverlyn P. Peralta said there was a bumper harvest this season since the province was not hit by major natural calamities in the past months.

“The agency will undertake massive procurement this season to create buffer stock,” Peralta said.

NFA buys palay at P 17.00 per kilogram and provides a Drying Incentive Fee of P0.20/kg.

There is also a Delivery Incentive Fee of P 0.20/kg up to P0.50/kg based on the distance of the farm to the collection points or NFA Warehouse.

An additional P0.30/kg Cooperative Development Incentive Fee (CDIF) is given if palay deliveries come from farmers’ organizations or cooperatives.

Peralta called on farmers to visit the NFA provincial office located at the Capitol Compound in Lingayen to secure their passbooks, which will be necessary in the buying process.

The NFA telephone numbers are 542-4154 and 542-4366.
