Binloc, Pantal clash for crown
DAGUPAN CITY SK-INTER BARANGAY
DARKHORSE Barangay Bonuan Binloc team will be up against the three-time champion Barangay Pantal in the finals of this year’s Dagupan City SK-Inter Barangay Basketball Tournament.
Bonuan Binloc clinched the championship slot by edging Barangay Calmay, 110-107, in a thrilling match last October 7 at Dagupan People’s Astrodome.
“This is the first time our barangay entered the championship so we’ll try our best to sweep the finals,” said the confident head coach Joseph Yu.
“We’re just lucky and I believe our boys are determined to win the championship,” added Chester Gonzales, SK chairman of Binloc and the president of the city’s SK federation.
Pantal, meanwhile, almost succumbed to defending champion Barangay Bonuan Gueset but eventually won, scoring a come-from-behind, nail-biting 89-86 victory to capture the second championship slot.
“Barangay Pantal was already a champion three times and we want to make it four. We had some lapses especially in the last four minutes but the boys recovered,” said Pantal head coach Adolf Sta. Maria.
The championship games start on October 14, 3:00 p.m., at the People’s Astrodome.–JAGJr.
