Bautista hosts province’s World Washing Day
Lingayen — “I promise to wash my hands with soap and water.”
This was the chorus of the school children of Bautista Central School while washing their hands together during the province’s observance of World Handwashing Day on October 7, highlighting the promotion of good healthcare for all.
The activity, which focused the Millennium Development Goal of reducing the deaths of children in the early age by way of handwashing with soap and water, serves as an effective measure to avoid diseases such as diarrhea, pneumonia and acute respiratory syndromes.
Sangguniang Panlalawigan Board Member (BM) Amadeo T. Espino, who represented Governor Amado T. Espino Jr. as guest of honor and speaker, joined the pupils, teachers, parents, local officials, health partners and representatives from Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) in the activity.
Espino was elated at how the participants responded to the goal of the activity and urged them to continue promoting good healthcare in the school and in their homes.
“Through refurbishing the provincial government-owned hospitals with modern healthcare facilities and equipment and enrolling a big number of Pangasinenses to PhilHealth registration, the present administration headed by Gov. Espino has been endeavouring to promote quality healthcare among Pangasinenses, most especially for the poorest Pangasinenses who are sick,” he said.
Meanwhile, Regional EHCP (Essential Heath Care Program) Coordinator Anna Capispisan made a short lecture on handwashing before facilitating the conduct of the handwashing drill demonstration with the pupils.
Bautista Mayor Amado I. Espino Jr. was represented by Vice Mayor Joseph Espino together with some Bautista town officials.
“Sana magtuloy-tuloy pa ang aktibidad na ito hindi lang ngayon para maiwasan ang sakit,” VM Espino said as he stressed to the young minds, “Ugaliin natin ang maghugas ng kamay lalo na ang paglilinis ng katawan”.
Expressing support to the activity, Schools Division Superintendent of Pangasinan II Viraluz S. Raguindin joined the teaching force of the Bautista district headed by Supervisor Aricion Bactad and Bautista Central School Principal IV Isagani Saavedra.
The Global Handwashing Day is an initiative of the Global Public-Private Partnership for Handwashing with soap; and is endorsed by a wide array of government, international institutions, civil society organizations, NGOs, private companies and individuals worldwide. (PIO/Mark Gerry Naval Oblanca)
