Airport fosters development, says ex-pilot VM

ALAMINOS Vice Mayor Cesar Manzano, a commercial pilot for nine years before he entered politics, said the airport project in his city will boost economic development.

“Communities with airports have enjoyed progress,” Manzano said, citing the development in Pampanga as brought about mainly by investments and tourism drawn into the province by the Clark Airfield.

“To me, a community having an airport is advantageous. I have been all over the world as a pilot, and I have not seen any community that has an airport without becoming progressive,” he said during the KBP Forum at the Philippine Information Agency on Thursday.

The airport being built in Alaminos, home of the Hundred Islands National Park, will cost an estimated P3.9 billion.

Once completed, the airport would cover an area of 158.5 hectares.

The airport was initially planned to start operating for domestic flights within this year but this has been moved to 2013.

International flights will be served in 2022. (PIA-Pangasinan/ARF)
