ALCALA—Rice farmers here have, for the last three years, been the beneficiaries of the Agro Eco System Analysis (AESA) program, which is aimed at informing farmers on the sustainability of new farming technologies and making choices for better harvest.

AESA, being promoted by PhilAgri Corporation with help from the Department of Agriculture, is being adopted in the barangays of Kisikis, San Pedro Ili, and Poblacion East.

Isagani Pineda, Rice Sufficiency Officer (RSO) of PhilAgri, is now conducting a weekly seminar-workshop for the barangay officials in the three barangays.

PhilAgri said AESA is the best decision-making strategy for farmers, allowing them to choose what technologies they should use in farming to improve income and ensure sustainability.

“Planting palay has an impact on global warming but because we can’t avoid rice which is our major source of food, we help prevent usage of chemicals such as pesticides and insecticides that causes harm on our environment,” Pineda said.

Under AESA, farmers are encouraged to form associations so that they can collectively decide and implement proper farming management systems.– Mhel Bongarsa, UPang
