R1MC’s expansion “almost certain”
FROM 330 TO 600 BEDS
THE expansion of the Region 1 Medical Center (R1MC) in Dagupan City from the existing 330 into a 600-bed capacity is now “almost certain”, according to Fourth District Rep. Gina De Venecia.
She said House Bill No 3840, which she filed seeking the expansion of the hospital, is now being discussed in the bicameral committee level of both the Senate and the House of Representatives.
She said the expansion will not only involve an increase in bed capacity but a corresponding increase in medical personnel and upgrading of services and facilities.
The upgrading and modernization of the R1MC is number three among the top 22 priority projects of the Department of Health (DoH), according to De Venecia.
The hospital expansion will be carried out over a period of five years, with sixty beds added yearly.
De Venecia said the R1MC expansion will be a big boost to the healthcare needs of the people, especially those within her district, which includes Dagupan City.
She also stressed that the cost of operation and maintenance of the hospital will not burden local governments because R1MC is under the DoH in contrast with the plan of Dagupan City Mayor Benjie Lim to build a lying-in clinic for Dagupan City.
