Pangasinan schools to launch online-school papers
LINGAYEN–“We are living in a digital age.”
This was the emphasized by Governor Amado T. Espino, Jr. when the provincial government’s “Digitizing School Paper” project was launched last September 14.
About 300 school paper advisers and student-journalists from 96 elementary, secondary, and tertiary schools in the province converged at the Pangasinan Development and Training Center to participate in the event that aims to initiate the design and construction of a website for every school newspaper.
Vangie Padilla, technical consultant for Online Information Management to the Office of the Governor, explained the advantages of the project such as reaching more people, publishing more content, and being able to update these contents easily and quickly.
Mary Zarlene de Ocampo, a student-journalist from Pangasinan National High School, said the project of creating websites for the school papers would encourage more students to read, especially those of their generation who are more inclined towards using the internet than print media.
Another student-journalist, Gavino Gale from University of Luzon commended the idea since he believes that it will enhance the publication through the help of social media.
A follow-up seminar will be held in October to post the contents of those schools that will pursue the website project.–Johanne R. Macob
