OPVET sets events for World Rabies Day

LINGAYEN—The provincial government of Pangasinan through the Office of the Provincial Veterinarian (OPVET) is set to conduct a wide-array of activities this September in observance of World Rabies Day set on the 28thday of the month.

Provincial Veterinarian Officer-in-Charge Eric Jose C. Perez said that aside from Rabies Awareness Information Dissemination Campaigns conducted yearly, the OPVET has decided to sponsor additional activities this year.

Among the activities included are: Poster and Slogan Contest, Dog Show, Mass Anti-Rabies Vaccination (availed for free), Film Showing along with an Open Forum on rabies awareness.

The participants for the poster and slogan contest in the elementary and high school categories must have the theme: “Working together for a Rabies-Free Pangasinan”.

The entries for the poster and slogan contest must be submitted at the OPVET located at the Enro building near the Urduja House at the Capitol compound on or before September 24.

Three contest categories (Best Breed – Sporting Dogs; Best Breed – Toy Dogs; and Well Dressed Pet) of the Fun Match Dog Show on September 26 at the Pangasinan Training and Development Center (PDTC) are open for the participation of pet dog owners and pet dogs. The deadline for the confirmation of participation is also on September 24.

Meanwhile, elementary pupils and high school students from nearby schools in Poblacion, Lingayen are invited to watch the film showing on September 26, which shall serve as information dissemination campaign on rabies awareness.

Department of Agriculture Region 1 Rabies Coordinator Constancia Diaz together with some District Veterinarians of the province have been invited to entertain the questions of the participants during the open forum.

Certificates of recognition and cash prizes will be awarded to the winners of the contests while certificates of participation shall be given to non-winners.
