Management clinic for marine development
A WORKSHOP was held in Dagupan, a city crisscrossed by seven rivers, last week to promote the sustainability and development of marine resources.
Attended by barangay representatives, the consultative clinic focused on Executive Order 533, the Integrated Coastal Management (ICM) implementation adoption law, which was explained by Marizel Calpito, coastal marine management division chief of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources-Region 1.
Councilor Brian C. Lim, the local legislative chair on environment and natural resources, opened the workshop by encouraging the barangay officials to do their part in preserving the rivers and its resources which serve as the city’s main source of livelihood.
Other concerns tackled in the workshop were ICM concepts and principles and sustainable coastal development framework with activities to simulate application of proper approaches on marine resources stewardship. (CIO)
