Good governance now a way of life, says BM
THE Seal of Good Housekeeping recently awarded to the provincial government is icing on the cake.
Board Member Von Mark Mendoza said while he and the rest of Capitol officials are elated by the recognition from the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), the provincial government is practicing good governance and transparency not for the sake of the award.
Mendoza said Governor Amado Espino Jr. has always reminded provincial officials to simply work hard and any award will be a consolation.
The governor formally received the award and a P7 million Performance Challenge Fund last Monday.
“At least, we are happy that the national government has recognized what the governor has done or has been doing,” he added.
The Seal of Good Housekeeping is awarded by the DILG to local government units which have shown to be effective in promoting accountable governance, transparency in transactions and auditing using a set of monitoring criteria, explained Rolando A. Cabradilla, DILG cluster head for Pangasinan at the KBP Forum at the Philippine Information Agency office on Thursday.
Three cities and 24 municipalities, out of four cities and 44 municipalities, in the province have also been conferred the award. (PIA-Pangasinan/ARF)
