Dengue deaths now at 11, cases reach 2,550
LINGAYEN—The rains this year have pushed dengue cases up to 2,550 patients with 11 deaths recorded by the Provincial Health Office (PHO) as of August 31.
The cities of Urdaneta and San Carlos had the most number of cases at 212 and 210, respectively.
Capital town Lingayen had 197, followed by Bayambang with 104, and Alaminos, 80.
PHO data indicate that while those afflicted range from 1 to 84 years old, majority came from the 10-14-age bracket with 581 cases.
In an earlier report from the Department of Health (DOH) Region 1, Pangasinan recorded the most number of dengue cases in the region for the period January to June this year.
The PHO has reinforced the response service in all provincial hospitals for suspected dengue cases even as they called on communities to clean their surroundings and rid their premises of possible breeding sites of mosquitoes.
Dengue is a disease caused by a virus spread by the Aedes aegypti mosquito.
Its common symptoms are sudden fever, muscle and joint pains, and rashes.
The DOH expects dengue cases to go down starting this month as the end of the rainy season approaches. –Johanne R. Macob
