AFTER filing criminal and administrative complaints against Mayor Benjamin Lim and Jose Mariano Cuña before the Ombudsman, petitioner Leo S. Angeles is now seeking Lim’s preventive suspension to ensure that the investigation can be carried out without undue interference and influence from the mayor.

The Motion for Preventive Suspension filed by Angeles was marked received by the Ombudsman for Luzon on Aug. 31, 2012, a copy of which was received by THE PUNCH before deadline.

Angeles said in his motion, “considering the position of the respondent City Mayor and in order not to hamper impartial result of the investigation, there is an imperative need to suspend respondent City Mayor so that he cannot influence witnesses and complainant can have a free access to the records as enshrined in the Constitution.”

The charges filed are for violation of the Anti-graft and Corrupt Practices Act in connection with the purchase of a 30-hectare lot in Barangay Awai, San Jacinto in 2002 for P16 million.

Angeles filed his criminal and administrative complaint on July 23, 2012.

Another complaint related to the alleged misuse of calamity funds has also been filed.
