Activities for youth planned
TOURISM MONTH
LINGAYEN–Pangasinan celebrates this year’s Tourism Month with various activities that will highlight the province’s rich cultural and artistic heritage.
Ma. Luisa A. Elduayan, Tourism Operations Division Chief said that the series of activities are expected to heighten the awareness of the youth on social values of tourism.
These, she said, have already started as early as September 3 in different municipalities and schools in Pangasinan with poster-making contest and junk art competition as initial activities.
Anchored on the United Nations World Tourism Organization’s 2012 theme, “Tourism and Sustainable Energy: Powering Sustainable Development”, the activities are aimed to orient students and the general public on the environment and social values.
Winners of the poster-making and junk art contests for LGU level will automatically compete in the provincial competition slated on September 24 at SM City Rosales. All artworks will be displayed in a weeklong exhibit starting September 24 before the judging and awarding rites, which will be announced on a later date.
Meanwhile, the main program of the World Tourism Day will be held on September 28 at the elegant Sison Auditorium here.
Elduayan said the program rites will be highlighted by the launching of the “I Love Pangasinan” TV commercial, opening of “Balitok a Tawir” or Pangasinan Culture and Arts Festival (2nd edition), and ceremonial awarding of Tourism and Information Kiosk to selected LGUs.
In addition, the tourism chief said the provincial government will intensify its publicity and promotions activities via the airing of the documentary entitled “Pangasinan Waiting in the Wings”, a Living Asia Channel production, over Pangasinan cable stations, and the production of a TV commercial of the “I Love Pangasinan” movement for month-long airing over regional and local cable stations and for streaming via website and other internet sites.
Baruy Pangasinan, which was launched last year, will again be showcased as one of the post activities of the tourism month with the following scheduled tours: Lingayen (Sept. 28.), Infanta (Oct. 9), Mabini (Oct. 16), Burgos (Oct. 23), San Fabian (Oct. 30), Laoac (Nov. 6), Mapandan (Nov. 13), Manaoag (Nov. 20) and Bautista (Nov. 27).
The project, conceptualized by Governor Amado T. Espino, Jr., launched by the present administration to instill among Pangasinenses genuine love and loyalty for one’s locality, especially among the youth. (PIO/Ruby R. Bernardino)
