Tanods told to join fight vs. shabu
BARANGAY tanods in Dagupan will be mobilized to help lawmen track and identify suspects involved in the illegal drugs trade in the city.
Mayor Benjamin S. Lim announced the new policy when he convened last Wednesday a special meeting with all chiefs of barangay tanods.
He asked the attendees to maximize the services of the “village policemen” whom he described as “front liners” in the maintenance of peace and order in the communities.
During the meeting attended by Dagupan Liga ng mga Barangay President Guillermo Vallejos and Councilor Jess Canto, the mayor pledged to equip the tanods with the necessary equipment to make effective in their jobs.
The mayor assured the city’s barangay tanods that they will be provided insurance policies, additional honoraria, allowances or bonuses.
Lim noted that 50% of crimes are drug-related cases.
The news release from the city hall, however, failed to indicate if the new tasks of the barangay tanods will be defined by a sanggunian ordinance or resolution.
He added that the success of the campaign will attract more investors that would promote sustainable livelihood opportunities for “our families”.–(CIO)
