PHO marks Lung Month with TB Caravan
LINGAYEN—In observance of the Lung Month held every August, the provincial government through the Provincial Health Office (PHO) sponsored a TB (Tubercolosis) Caravan at the grounds of the Pangasinan Provincial Hospital (PPH) in Bolingit, San Carlos City on August 22.
The activity, which gathered some 94 patients from towns of Binmaley, San Fabian, Malasiqui, Sta. Barbara, San Jacinto, Mangaldan, Calasiao and San Carlos City, carried the theme “TB-Free Philippines: A Continuing Challenge from Childhood to Adulthood”.
The activity included a lecture on “Katotohanan Tungkol sa TB”; active case-findings on Direct Sputum Smear Microscopy (DSSM) for TB Symptomatics and Tuberculin Skin Test for Children under 15; and Re-evaluation of patients with Negative Smear but Chest X-Ray Active TB.
Provincial Health Officer Anna Marie Teresa De Guzman who welcomed the participants in behalf of Governor Amado T. Espino Jr. said the activity is among the healthcare programs of the provincial leadership to make Pangasinan a TB-free province.
“Sama-sama tayo na gawing TB-free ang Pangasinan nang sa gayon ay maging home of the healthiest Filipinos ang ating probinsya,” she stressed, adding that the continuous support from PHO-partner agencies and offices is very much appreciated by the provincial government.
Pulmonologist Jennifer Ann Wi, Regional Coordinating Council Co-Chairperson, shared her expertise in pulmonology and stressed, “Tanggalin natin ang pagdududa na di nagagamot ang TB sapagkat ito ay madaling nagagamot kapag tutok ang gamutan.”
“There is no reason na hindi magamot ang TB mahirap ka man o mayaman — ito ang layunin ng Department of Health,” she said.
Meanwhile, Dr. Myra C. Cabotaje, Regional Director for Health Development – I, urged those afflicted with TB to religiously follow medical advisories of the DOH pertaining to the age-old sickness.
“All of us have significant roles in treating this disease so we have to cooperate in making our unified efforts against TB come on the right path,” Cabotaje said.
Also present during the activity were Pangasinan Provincial Hospital Officer-in-Charge Policarpio Manuel who welcomed and thanked the participants and partner agencies and offices of PHO and PPH; some Municipal Health Officers (MHOs) and Rural Health Unit (RHU) staff members and nurses from participating cities and municipalities.
