Leptospirosis now covered by PhilHealth
THE Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth), in response to the recent flooding in various parts of Luzon, has included uncomplicated leptospirosis, a water-borne disease, in its coverage.
Effective August 7, all admissions of uncomplicated leptospirosis will be reimbursed as case rate of P11, 000 for all member types.
According to Irene Martinez, PhilHealth public relations officer, “services rendered to a patient are packaged and health care providers are paid a fixed amount, and enables members to know outright how much in benefits PhilHealth will provide,” Martinez explained.
She added it will also enable PhilHealth to reimburse accredited providers faster.
PhilHealth applies the No Balance Billing (NBB) policy in covering cases of uncomplicated leptospirosis, especially for all sponsored program members as defined in the PhilHealth Circular No. 11, s-2011.
NON-MEMBERS
Meanwhile, all non-members in areas affected by the recent flooding will be automatically enrolled as PhilHealth Sponsored Program members and can avail of the benefit.
“A member who contracted leptospirosis validated to be really indigent automatically will be enrolled as sponsored program member,” said Martinez.
Leptospirosis is commonly transmitted from animals to humans when water that has been contaminated by animal urine comes in contact with unhealed breaks in the skin, the eyes, or with the mucous membranes.–(PIA-Pangasinan/AMM)
