Improvement in crime solution efficiency seen

LINGAYEN—Back in 2010, about 75 percent of the more than 7,000 police investigators nationwide were found to have no formal competency training to perform their tasks.

And so a training program was launched and now only 73 designated investigators in two regions have yet to undergo the program given by the Philippine National Police (PNP), according to PNP Deputy Director General Arturo Cacdac, deputy chief PNP for administration during his visit here last Wednesday.

In his “sentimental journey” at the provincial police camp here where he once served as its provincial director, Cacdac said the training which started during the time of then PNP chief Director General Raul Bacalzo and will be completed this month, is making a big difference in making police probers more efficient in crime clearances and solutions.

Crime solution efficiency means suspects are identified and arrested, and a corresponding case is filed in court.

Cacdac urged police chiefs in the province not to replace trained investigators unless their replacement had undergone the necessary training as well.

A similar 2-week training for investigators in the Women and Children Desk had also been conducted. Another 1,000 have also been specially trained for the Interagency Against Trafficking in Persons.

Cacdac reported that 16 provincial crime laboratories have since been established and there are currently less than 10 provinces in far-flung areas that remain without their own laboratories.—Eva Visperas
