NO typhoon signal was raised over Pangasinan but Typhoon ‘Gener’ left some towns flooded and prompted the release of water from the San Roque Dam.

No casualties were reported.

Three barangays of Bugallon, namely Portic, Hacienda and Cayanga, were declared under state of calamity because of damages brought by flashfloods on Sunday night.

At least five families composed of 17 individuals were evacuated to the Hacienda Elementary School in Bugallon due to rising floodwaters.

DAGUPAN

Dagupan became a virtual water world for almost a week because of continuous rains triggered by high tide measuring one meter.

At least 18 of the city’s 31 barangays including the main thoroughfares in the downtown areas were under one to three feet-deep water.

Classes were suspended in pre-school, elementary and high school levels for at least two days.

The flood-prone towns Sta. Barbara  and Calasiao were not spared with Barangay Talibaew in  Calasiao  going under neck-deep water.

Eight families from Barangay Gabon and one family from Barangay Lasip were evacuated to the  Calasiao Aliguas Training Center.

Avenix Arenas, spokesperson of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, explained that these barangays are located in the downstream of the Sinocalan River, which makes them prone to flooding.

SAN ROQUE DAM

The San Roque Dam in San Manuel town opened one gate on Thursday night measuring .5 meters for its pre-emptive water release having reached 278 meters above sea level, just two meters away from its spilling level.

San Roque power Corporation Vice President for Operations Tom Valdez said the water release at 330 cubic meters per second (cms) is insignificant and there is no cause for alarm.

Nonetheless, he advised the public to always be prepared for any eventuality. (PIA-Pangasinan/VHS).
