Funding for CCTV in schools sought
THE idea is good but where’s the money?
This question was posed by the Department of Education (DepEd) Pangasinan Divisions as the latter welcomed the recently approved provincial resolution calling for the installation of closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras in public and private schools.
The Sangguniang Panlalawigan recently passed Resolution No. 1343-2012 aimed at decreasing in-school crimes with the aid CCTVs.
Dr. Viraluz Raguindin, schools division superintendent of Pangasinan II, said the use of CCTVs would strengthen campus security programs but quickly added that “I wish our provincial lawmakers would include provision for funding.”
School Superintendent Aurora Domingo of Pangasinan I Division echoed the sentiment saying CCTVs would curtail “bad intentions” and stressed that it is important to ensure that the installed equipment are working properly.
Dagupan City Schools Division Superintendent Alma Ruby Torio and Alaminos City Superintendent Oscar Tadeo also said it is a good idea to install CCTVs for the security of teachers, students and school properties.
SP Member Jeremy Agerico B. Rosario, author of the resolution, cited that many crime incidents have been solved with the presence of CCTVs and that these equipment are now affordable.
Rosario urged school administrations and school organizations like Parents-Teachers associations and alumni groups to help raise funds for the purpose. (PIA-Pangasinan/VHS)
