LINGAYEN–Governor Amado T. Espino Jr. congratulated Franchesca Anne Inacay, a Dagupeña and a member of the Philippine team that won the 5th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Quiz Bee championship held in Phnom Penh, Cambodia last August 1-5, during a courtesy call on August 14.

Fifteen-year-old Inacay of St. Albert the Great School in Dagupan City, with teammates Krystianne Paul De Pedro (Koronadal National Comprehensive High School – South Cotabato) and Maria Angela KrizelleRubin (San Joaquin National High School in Calbayog City – Eastern Visayas), bagged the championship after besting 27 other participants from nine countries in Southeast Asia.

The three young ladies defeated students from Cambodia, Brunei, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam, making the Philippines a consistent top contender in the ASEAN Quiz Bee Regional Competitions.

Inacay was accompanied by school principal Adelaida Carvajal and Coach Vic Agbayani.

Provincial Administrator Rafael F. Baraan also commended Inacay urging her “to stay up there and continue inspiring young people in Pangasinan”.

Carvajal presented a replica of Angkor Wat in Cambodia to Espino as a memento of her victory.

The provincial government awarded cash incentives to Inacay (Php 20, 000) and Agbayani (Php 10, 000) for their achievements.

The Philippine Team grabbed a total score of 71 points; Cambodia came close with 70 points while Thailand scored 68 points. (PIO/Mark Gerry N. Oblanca)
