SOFT drinks producer Coca-cola Philippines will soon have its 100th Little Red Schoolhouse, a project launched in 1997.

In partnership with the Department of Education and the Philippine Business for Social Progress, Coca-cola has so far built 93 classrooms around rural areas of the Philippines, including parts of Pangasinan, with 275 classrooms, benefitting nearly 60,000 schoolchildren and more than 3,100 teachers.

Each Little Red Schoolhouse is fully furnished and includes a water system and toilets. The project also provides training for teachers, particularly on classroom management techniques for multi-grade environments. It also provides storybooks and a special reading program in partnership with the Sa Aklat Sisikat (SAS) Foundation, to encourage the love and habit of reading among students.

Parent-Teacher-Community Associations are also organized to provide support to the teachers, particularly in keeping the children in school and maintaining the school infrastructure.

“This year, the Coca-Cola Foundation Philippines is on track to complete and turn over its 100thLittle Red Schoolhouse as Coca-Cola celebrates its 100th anniversary in the Philippines. We are proud to work side by side with teachers and parents to make these schools successful,” said Cecile Alcantara, President of Coca-Cola Foundation Philippines.
