Shahani rapped by former aide
A VOLUNTEER broadcast journalist who worked under Sixth District Board Member Ranjit Shahani has filed a complaint on Friday against his former boss before the Office of the Provincial Prosecutor in Lingayen.
Cesar Mendoza of San Carlos City, a volunteer for Aksyon Radio, accused Shahani of estafa, falsification of public document and violation of Republic 3019 or the Anti- Graft and Corrupt Practices Act and for Grave Misconduct and Conduct Unbecoming of a Public Official.
The complaint-affidavit, a copy of which was sent to The PUNCH, filed by Mendoza, who served as Shahani’s aide and media coordinator, is in connection with his alleged uncollected salary from November 16-30, 2011 and December 2011 in the amount of about P10,000, aside from his allowances and other incentives.
Mendoza also complained against the board member’s rough actuations when the former went to the latter’s office to demand his payment and benefits.
Mendoza discovered that his salaries were released to two staff of Shahani by virtue of a special power of attorney purportedly signed by him, which he disowned.
SHAHANI SAYS NO PROBLEM
Contacted for comment, Shahani said it was not a problem at all because the money was returned to the provincial treasury.
Shahani said Mendoza was not paid because of his failure to log in for the required daily time records.
He branded the complaint as political, saying he knows who is behind it, and connected it to the coming election in May 2013.
Shahani is the lone voice of the opposition in the Sangguniang Panlalawigan, having resigned earlier from the coalition that backs Governor Amado Espino Jr.
