Pangasinan to host 2012 Batang Pinoy NL Leg

LINGAYEN—After the successful hosting of the annual Palarong Pambansa last May, the provincial government is now gearing up for another major national sporting event, the “Batang Pinoy Northern Luzon Leg” on October 24-27 to be held at the Narciso Ramos Sports and Civic Center.

A memorandum of agreement (MOA) for the hosting was recently signed by the provincial government as represented by Governor Amado Espino Jr., Provincial Administrator Rafael F. Baraan and Executive Assistant III Modesto Operania with the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) as represented by PSC Commissioner Jose Luiz Gomez and PSC Secretary Jay Alano.

The “Batang Pinoy” Philippine Youth Games, mandated under Executive Order No. 44, aims to address the needs for a grassroots sports program centered on values formation through sports.

Participants to the games are Filipino children, whether naturalized or Filipino-born, 15 years old and below. Representation in the Batang Pinoy is strictly by LGU accreditation, either provincial, city or municipality.

The Batang Pinoy Luzon qualifying leg is expected to attract young athletes from Regions 1,2, 3 and Cordillera Administrative Region.

Qualifying tournaments in this leg include: arnis, archery, athletics, badminton, boxing, chess, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, tennis, and karatedo.

The national finals for Northern Luzon Leg also includes shooting, wushu and baseball (boys).

First and second placers in the Luzon leg will automatically qualify for the National Championships which will be hosted by IloIlo City on December 5-8. (PIO)
