FOURTH District Rep. Gina de Venecia, who is serving her first term, was chosen by the   Publishers Association of the Philippines (PAPI) as one of the Ten Most Outstanding Congressmen of the Philippines.

She was honored during the PAPI 2012 Midyear Media Conference and Awards Presentation on July 20 at the Makati Sports Club.

The awards and conferment ceremony for the country’s 10 Most Outstanding Congressmen was attended by House Speaker Feliciano Belmonte Jr. as guest of honor and speaker.

The other Outstanding Congressmen honored by PAPI are Reps. Teodoro Casiño, Rodolfo Fariñas, Roilo Golez, Edcel Lagman, Hermilando Mandanas, Emil Ong, Angelo Palmones, Rufus Rodriguez, Lorenzo Tañada III and Rodolfo Valencia.

Juan Dayang, PAPI president, said the media sector covering all congressional districts all over the country, has kept a close watch on the performance of the members of the House of Representatives.

The community press, he said, has been documenting the accomplishments of the members of congress.

De Venecia said she is deeply humbled by the honor.

“As the only woman honoree, I am doubly appreciative of this award, because it is truly heartwarming to be in the company of such a distinguished group of illustrious congressmen, who make us proud to be Filipinos,” De Venecia said.

She said she was guided by the counsel of her husband, five- time Speaker Jose De Venecia Jr. and the dictum of one of the most beloved presidents of our country, the late Corazon Aquino, who stated:  “I didn’t have any formula for building democracy. All I can suggest is to forget about yourself and just think of your people.”
