Lim decries BFAR’s “indecisiveness” on processing plant
MAYOR Benjamin Lim has expressed dismay over what he called the “indecisiveness and inaction” of Atty. Asis Perez, Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) national director, over the proposed memorandum of agreement for the operation of the Seafood Processing Plant in Barangay Bonuan Binloc.
Lim expressed his disappointment when he addressed the Milkfish Industry Cluster Meeting last July 5 attended by Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Region I Director Florante O. Leal, DTI Provincial Director Peter O. Mangabat, fishpond operators, fish processors, bangus nursery operators, bangus hatchery operators, representatives of small business companies, BFAR, Pangasinan State University for Research and Development, commercial banks and the provincial government.
“At present, the city is still waiting for the MOA draft from BFAR. Director Perez assured us that within 60 days, the city and BFAR will be signing a MOA on the operation of the processing plant. More than 60 days have already lapsed and until now, we are still waiting for it,” he said.
In the meantime, DTI and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) have joined hands in crafting doable programs on how to market the Dagupan bangus to the world market and make it competitive.
“We are trying to get the concerns and problems of bangus growers in this region so we can formulate a plan to help them market their produce,” said Leal. (CIO/JCB)
