Cookfest highlights Nutrition Month fete
TEN groups of barangay nutrition scholars (BSN) from the 31 barangays in Dagupan competed last July 27 in a cooking contest dubbed “Oh My Gulay! Cookfest”, the highlight of the Nutrition Month celebration which focuses on the promotion of vegetable consumption.
City Nutrition Officer Leah L. Aquino said the competitors were judged on the originality of their recipe, which should be low-cost and nutritious.
Winners in the competition received prizes from the Rotary Club of Uptown Dagupan headed by its president Belen Montessa.
The month- long celebration included micronutrient supplementation of vitamin A, iron, salt testing for iodine in markets and households; deworming of 12-71months old; home gardening; nutrition education classes: lecture on the importance of vegetables; physical fitness and planting of malunggay cuttings and nut jingles, essay writing and poster making contests in schools; distribution of seeds and seedlings and food processing.
“At the end of the month, the barangay nutrition scholars will have a get together at the Tondaligan Park where they will have lunch together,” said Aquino. (CIO)
