6 more barangays undergo PIGS training
AFTER successfully introducing organically grown pigs under the Profitable Innovative Growing System (PIGS) program in barangay Mangin in Dagupan City, six more barangays have been integrated in the same program.
A seminar was held under the auspices of Pro Natural Technical Support and Services led by its representative Jun Cahusay, a doctor, in partnership with the city government, last July 12 at the Malimgas Public Market.
The six are the barangays of Bolosan, Salisay, Tambac, Caranglaan, Bacayao Surand Bacayao Norte.
Every participant in the PIGS program, according to Agriculture Officer Emma Molina, will receive five pigs to start with after they have undergone training on natural (organic) hog farming method, least cost-high profit and non-antibiotic meat production, including the construction of a “kulungan” without bad smell and the prevention of possible occurrence of epidemic disease.
This livelihood program was initiated by Mayor Benjamin S. Lim to market organically grown lechon as among Dagupan’s best products, aside from its popular bangus.
In the last Bangus festival, a lechon cook-off was held with pig roasters from various parts of the country as participants. (CIO/JCB)
