26 LGUs receive Performance Challenge Fund

SAN FERNANDO CITY-Twenty six local government units (LGUs) in Pangasinan received the Performance Challenge Fund (PCF) worth P30 million last Tuesday here from Interior and Local Government Secretary Jesse Robredo.
The recipient LGUs were earlier conferred the Seal of Good Housekeeping (SGH), a measure of excellence in good governance based on their records checked by the Commission on Audit (COA) and for being transparent in their operations.
The cities of Urdaneta and San Carlos received P3 million each.
On the other hand, the municipalities that received P1 million each were Agno, Alcala, Anda, Asingan, Bani, Bolinao, Bugallon, Calasiao, Dasol, Infanta, Lingayen Mabini, Malasiqui, Mangaldan, Malasiqui, Mapanda, Pozorrubio, Rosales San Nicolas, Sison, Tayug, Umingan, Urbiztondo and Villasis.
The LGU recipients can use their respective PCFs to finance local development initiatives in the areas of tourism, local economic development, disaster risk reduction and management and solid waste management.
REQUIREMENTS
Bayambang Municipal Administrator Romulo Velasquez, who questioned Robredo why his town has yet to receive an SGH, was told that Bayambang has yet to substantially comply with some of the requirements.
Robredo pointed out that LGUs are conferred an SGH if they have no derogatory or adverse records in the COA and must maintain a website detailing programs and projects, plus the status and funds spent for these.
DILG Region 1 director Corazon Guray said 12 cities and municipalities from Ilocos Sur, La Union and Pangasinan are still in the process of completing their respective requirements.
The other recipients of PCF in Region 1 are Laoag City and six municipalities from Ilocos Norte, 10 from Ilocos Sur, and six from La Union.
